Expand your keyword strategy with Related Keywords. Enter a seed term to discover variations, search volume, competition, and CPC for Google SERP Tracking.

Updated this week

What it is

Related Keywords helps you discover new keyword ideas based on a seed term.

You enter a keyword, choose a location and language, and the system generates a list of semantically related terms, including:

  • Synonyms

  • Variations

  • Closely associated queries

Each keyword includes supporting data such as search volume, competition level, and CPC.

This is designed to help you expand tracking coverage beyond your initial keyword list.

Why it matters

Most keyword strategies start too narrow.

Related Keywords helps you:

  • Broaden topic coverage

  • Build content clusters

  • Discover supporting long-tail keywords

  • Identify commercial variations

  • Expand into new markets or regions

Instead of manually brainstorming keyword variations, you can generate structured data-driven suggestions instantly.

How it works

  1. Navigate to Google SERP Tracking

  2. Open the Keyword Intelligence tab

  3. Select Related Keywords

  4. Enter a seed keyword

  5. Choose:

    • Location

    • Language

  6. Click Find Keywords

The system returns a list of related keywords with the following metrics:

  • Search Volume

  • Competition

  • CPC

Understanding the metrics

Each keyword includes:

Metric

Description

Search Volume

Average monthly searches for that keyword in the selected country.

Competition

Indicates how competitive the keyword is in paid search.

CPC (Cost Per Click)

Average cost per click in Google Ads.
Useful for identifying commercial intent.

⚠️ Note: If Google does not provide sufficient data for a keyword, a dash (“-”) will appear.

Filtering options

You can refine results using filters such as:

  • Term (contains / does not contain)

  • Word count

  • Search volume

  • Competition

  • CPC

Filters can be saved for recurring research workflows.

How to add keywords to tracking

Once you’ve selected keywords:

  • Click the + icon to add individually
    or

  • Use checkboxes to bulk select multiple keywords

Then:

  1. Choose the project

  2. Confirm settings

  3. Add to tracking

Once added, the keywords follow your project’s update schedule.

How to use this strategically

1. Build content clusters

Start with a broad topic and expand into supporting subtopics.

Example:

  • Seed: “invoice software”

  • Related terms:

    • invoice generator

    • free invoice template

    • small business invoicing tools

2. Expand long-tail coverage

Filter for:

  • Word count ≥ 3
    Long-tail keywords often:

  • Have lower competition

  • Convert better

  • Rank faster

3. Identify commercial intent

Filter by:

  • Higher CPC
These keywords often indicate strong buying intent.

4. Launch new projects faster

When creating a new SERP project, use Related Keywords to quickly build a comprehensive keyword set.

⚠️ Important Notes:

  • Results are location and language dependent.

  • Data is based on Google’s available keyword data.

  • Adding keywords here does not duplicate tracked keywords, only new ones are added.

  • Keyword character limits still apply when adding to tracking.

Best practices

  • Always filter before bulk adding.

  • Avoid adding large volumes without segmentation, use Groups or Tags.

  • Combine with Competitor Keywords to identify gaps.

  • After adding, monitor performance in Top 10 / Top 20 ranges.
