What it is
Rate limiting controls how many keywords you can add or delete within a 24‑hour period.
It exists to prevent accidental bulk changes, protect data integrity, and ensure system stability when large keyword sets are being modified.
Why this matters
If you exceed your daily limit:
New keywords will not be added
Keyword deletions may be blocked
You’ll see an error asking you to try again later
Understanding rate limits helps you plan large keyword changes and avoid interruptions during setup or migrations.
How it works
Rate limits are based on two things:
Your keyword package size
Your update frequency (daily vs bi‑hourly)
Both adding and deleting keywords count toward the same daily limit.
Daily update plans
Daily update plans allow changes equal to 1× your total keyword allowance per day.
Examples:
100‑keyword plan → add/delete up to 100 keywords per day
300‑keyword plan → add/delete up to 300 keywords per day
Weekly update plans
Daily update plans allow changes equal to 1× your total keyword allowance per day.
Examples:
100‑keyword plan → add/delete up to 100 keywords per week
300‑keyword plan → add/delete up to 300 keywords per week
Bi‑hourly update plans (legacy)
Bi‑hourly update plans allow more flexibility.
Limits are 3× your total keyword allowance per day.
Examples:
50‑keyword plan → add/delete up to 150 keywords per day
1,000‑keyword plan → add/delete up to 3,000 keywords per day
What happens when you hit a limit
If you exceed your daily rate limit, you’ll see an error message similar to:
“Please slow down adding keywords and try again later.”
This means:
Your daily limit has been reached
You’ll need to wait until the next day to continue
Limits automatically reset after 24 hours.
What counts toward the limit
The following actions all count toward your daily limit:
Adding keywords manually
Bulk keyword additions
Deleting keywords
Moving keywords between projects
Edits to existing keywords do not count toward rate limits.
What does not affect rate limits
Editing keyword settings
Updating tags
Marking keywords as favourites
Importing historical ranking data (CSV imports still count per keyword added)
Best practices
Spread large keyword changes over multiple days
Use CSV import for large migrations
Avoid deleting and re‑adding keywords unnecessarily
