Visibility Score

The Keyword.com Visibility Score helps you to measure your search visibility.

How it Works

This chart evaluates your website's visibility in Google's organic search results by analyzing the rank of your keywords, their click-through rates (CTR), and search volumes. Use the date range filters—1 day, 7 days, 30 days, 6 months, 1 year, to all time—to track how your visibility evolves. A higher visibility score indicates a stronger online presence, making your site more likely to be found by potential visitors. Adjust your SEO strategies based on these insights to improve your rankings, enhance your site's visibility, and drive more organic traffic.

How Visibility is Calculated

The Visibility Score is determined by assigning a rank score to each keyword based on its position in the SERPs for the tracked URL, then multiplying it by the CTR for that position and the search volume. We sum the visibility per keyword and calculate the Visibility Score for all keywords:

Visibility Score = Σ ((Rank Score * CTR) * Search Volume

How are CTRs Calculated?

We take industry-standard models of what the CTR figures are and apply it against the search volumes.

For example (rough numbers):

Position #1 - 38% of all clicks

Position #2 - 12% of all clicks

Position #3 - 7.5% of all clicks

...

Position #9 - 1% of all clicks

Position #10 - 1% of all clicks

How To Use Visibility Score

Use the Visibility Score to track and improve your website’s performance in the SERPs. Here’s how:

  1. Monitor Performance Trends: regularly check your Visibility Score to understand how your site's visibility changes over time. Use the date range filters—1 day, 7 days, 30 days, 6 months, 1 year, to all time—to track your visibility evolution. Identify trends and investigate fluctuations.

  2. Identify Priority Keywords: determine which keywords contribute most to your site's visibility. Focus your SEO efforts on these high-impact keywords to maximize returns.

  3. Evaluate SEO Efforts: compare Visibility Scores before and after implementing SEO changes. This helps you assess the effectiveness of your strategies and make data-driven decisions.

  4. Competitor Analysis: Add projects, groups and tags with your competitors’ domains to compare your Visibility Score with them. Identify areas where they outperform you and strategize how to close the gap.

  5. Optimize Content: Use insights from your Visibility Score to refine your content. Focus on improving your rankings for keywords with high search volume and CTR to boost your overall visibility.

What is the Difference Between Visibility and Share of Voice?

The Visibility Score measures your website’s presence in search results by analyzing keyword rankings, CTR, and search volumes.

Share of Voice (SoV), on the other hand, shows you the top 10 sites that have the most equity of clicks in the SERPs for a project’s, group’s or tag’s keywords. Use this metric to identify competitors who are battling for your keywords.

Using both metrics together provides a comprehensive view of your online performance and competitive position.

Estimated Traffic

Use this metric to estimate your traffic potential:

This chart calculates the expected traffic to your website from specific keywords, factoring in your ranking position, the average click-through rate (CTR), and search volume. Adjust the date range filter—1 day, 7 days, 30 days, 6 months, 1 year, to all time—to examine how your traffic potential changes over time. This insight allows you to prioritize SEO efforts on high-performing keywords and optimize for better visibility and engagement. Use this data to forecast traffic trends and align your content strategy with your audience's search behavior for maximum impact.

What is the Difference Between Visibility and Estimated Traffic?

Visibility Score and Estimated Traffic are both essential metrics in understanding your website's SEO performance, but they serve different purposes:

Visibility Score

  • Purpose: measures how well your site ranks overall in search engine results.

  • Use Case: best for evaluating your website's general visibility and presence in search results.

Estimated Traffic:

  • Purpose: estimates the actual number of visitors your site might receive from specific keywords.

  • Use Case: Best for forecasting visitor numbers and prioritizing high-impact keywords for SEO efforts.

When Visibility Score and Estimated Traffic Diverge

Visibility Score and Estimated Traffic can yield significantly different insights under specific circumstances:

  • Long-Tail Keywords:

    • Ranking for Diverse Long-Tail Keywords: High rankings for numerous long-tail keywords can inflate Visibility Score without a proportional increase in Estimated Traffic.

      • Example: Ranking #1 for many long-tail keywords with low search volumes can boost your Visibility Score while Estimated Traffic stays modest.

  • Search Volume Disparities:

    • High Visibility, Low Traffic Keywords: If your site ranks well for many low-search-volume keywords, the Visibility Score can be high while Estimated Traffic remains low.

      • Example: Many #1 rankings for keywords with minimal search volume will boost Visibility Score but not significantly impact Estimated Traffic.

  • High Traffic, Low Visibility Keywords:

    • If your site ranks lower on the search results for high-search-volume keywords, Estimated Traffic can be high while Visibility Score remains low.

      • Example: Ranking at positions 5-10 for keywords with very high search volumes can lead to substantial Estimated Traffic due to the large number of searches, but the lower rank positions will result in a lower Visibility Score.
